SEO For Beginners – The Tool That Will Change Your Site

Imagine owning a boutique shop in a mall full of other clothing stores. When you first open, you have to find ways to attract customers. People that visit the mall will eventually visit your store as they  pass by. But eventually, you will have to find ways to attract the customers that are interested in purchasing your clothes. Customers will enter and leave the store, and while they may or may not come back, they will have an opinion about it that they will share with others. To send a good message about your store, you have to connect with customers, send the right ads, uphold prompt service, and create a name for your store that is defined by uniqueness and quality.  This is essentially what SEO is – it’s the organic and cost-free way of bringing in visitors to your website.

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It can dictate not only how much traffic you receive, but also if you are targeting the right traffic. Sites on search engines are ranked based on how accurate they convey information that people are looking for. Your site has to provide content that is honest and relevant to what people are searching for. If you do this, search engines will eventually start to rank your site highly and it will show up as one of the first results for a search.

Sites are also ranked on their speed and ease of use. Adding too many plugins, too many images, and too many colors will annoy visitors and potentially hinder your chances of getting new ones.

Providing relevant content is vital for SEO. For example, let’s say you have a website about paint brushes. If you provide content that is actually about paint brushes and is useful to the public, search engines will rank your site higher than others. However, if you have a site about paint brushes, but you create content that is not about paint brushes or is not really answering a visitor’s questions, your site will have a harder time being ranked highly or attracting traffic.

Amazon is show as the first search based on how it uses SEO and it’s rankings.

How does it work?

Search engines have various methods of gathering information on websites. Google sends “crawlers” to the internet that collects information on sites which includes content, speed, and traffic. Using all this data, it is able to understand whether you have a quality website and if it should show up as one of the first results for a particular search.

How do I know if I’m providing quality content on my website?

There are various tools that can be used to create quality content. You need to learn how to use keywords. Keywords are the phrases that people are searching for to get an answer. Researching your keywords and making sure that you have content that is keyword rich will ensure results. Sites like Jaaxy and Wordstream offer free and trial version tools that help research the quality of your keywords and also help you find new ones.

SEO helps define how far your website will. It’s a tool that is essential for any type of site – whether you are trying to build a blog, an online shop, or trying to advertise your domain portfolio. While it might seem overwhelming, a little bit of practice and getting used to the terminology is simple and effective.
